Why is it ridiculous to ask Science to prove God's existence
Science, one of the favourite subject of rational minds. Who can ignore the bliss of tremendous advancement done in our life through science. The device which is in your hand through which you're reading this article is only been possible because of science. Indeed, the most rational and logical minds have shaped our life in amazing way by the application of science.
Science is amazing field of knowledge. From mobile phones to aeroplane, everything seems to testify the greatness of science. Nevertheless just like any other field of knowledge science has its limitations too. And for a rational mind who likes to contemplate and reason must know about these limitations. There's a limit of science but this limit should not be taken as the limit of human knowledge.
Many times we became so overburdened by the blessings of science that we fail to recognise that science despite being so great yet is just a 'field' of knowledge. It's not the sum total of all knowledge. It's not the only source of knowledge but one of a source. We exaggerate science when we think that all the truth can only be found through science alone. It's a process in which a person when inspired by something attributes to it things which does not even belong to that. This is what happened with science. When people saw that science has amazingly modified their life, they got inspired from it that they taken it as the greatest and only source of knowledge. They started believing that science is the only yardstick of truth. However science itself never claimed that.
To understand it better let's take some examples. Do you know Socrates was a great philosopher born in Greece. Isaac Newton had discovered the law of gravitation. Albert Einstein had given the theory of relativity. You know these. Right? Well if I ask you "Did science tell you all of this? Did science prove that Newton had discovered law of gravitation?" No. So Why do you believe that Newton had discovered law of gravitation? Why do you believe that Winston Churchill was born in Britain? Do you have any empirical evidence for that? Did you find the soil of Britain in Winston Churchill's body so that you thought he was born in England? No. Right. Yet you believe so because history told you that. History is also a field of knowledge. You take pride on the fact that science use the method of doubt. But why science has never doubted that whether the theory of relativity was really discovered by Einstein or not? Simple. Because it's not the job of science it's a matter of history.
You know English language has 26 alphabets. Why science has never doubted that there could be more or less alphabets? Because it's not the job of science it's the matter of linguistics.
I have just given this example to tell that we just don't need science to live, science is not the only field of knowledge but other fields of knowledge are also equally important.
There are lots of things which you believe though they aren't proved by science. But just because science doesn't prove something doesn't imply that it does not exist. Let's go back to example. Just because science cannot prove that Dante was a poet doesn't imply that dante wasn't a poet. Through history we got to know that he was poet and we believe it.
There are many subfields of science itself which are not considered fully scientific. Psychology is one such field. You cannot see anxiety, anger, happiness, you can only see it's manifestation. There is no empirical evidences that happiness, anxiety, peace, anger exists. So shall we stop studying psychology because it's not scientific? No. Because we know that there are also other fields of knowledge besides science and if you're a knowledge seeker then you cannot deny other fields of knowledge.
The very first thing that a scientifically enthusiastic man need to understand is that what it means when science prove or disprove something and it's contexts. Science works on empirical evidences, science doesn't speak about things which are non empirical in nature. Science see a natural phenomenon, observe it, and try to explain how it happens. Based on this, it proposes a theory or law that could be right as well as wrong.
The major problem which a rational lover does due to their over enthusiasm of science is that they make statement which are invalid in itself. Such as "Science doesn't prove existence of God". In this article we have seen that how absurd is the idea to think that science should prove God.
The whole concept of God is not the topic of science. Science won't tell you if there's an eternal life. It won't tell you if there's hell or heaven. It is the topic of religion, philosophy and metaphysics. Therefore if someone wants to know about God then let him first know that science cannot disprove or prove God's existence. However the more we learn about scientific discoveries the more we appreciate the Majesty of Almighty that's being manifested through the nature.
