Interpretation of Dreams
Dreams have always been a mysterious part of our life. All of us more or less see dreams. We see dreams that are really interesting, lovely, fantastic, horrible, terrific, unpredicted, surprising (don't know much Vocabs) and sometimes also reality based. Not much work has been done in the field of dream as it's a pure consciousness level experience so it's difficult to study about it scientifically in a lab settings.
In the last century the famous psychologist Sigmund Freud did significant work on dreams. In his work "interpretation of dreams"(which is my post's title too) he analysed the deeper meaning of different types of dreams we experience and tried to form some theories that could be helpful to know our own self.
However in this post I have no intention to explain the interpretation of your each and every dream rather I'm interested in interpreting all the dreams collectively and try to understand what we can learn from dreams about our life.
So without taking much time, let's begin to analyse dreams. Last night I saw a dream. In the dream, I was playing gully cricket. Surprisingly my team had only 2 two players including me and the opposite team had 4 players (no wonder if my opposite team considered me as strong player as equal to their 3 players ๐ ). Anyway, match started, we batted first and scored a decent amount of runs. Now our bowling turn, another surprise my team member vanished suddenly. I couldn't find him anywhere at bowling time. (he might be called by his mummy to buy dhaniya pudina. Lots of cricketer's career is ruined by dhaniya pudina ๐๐ ๐ถ️)
Part 2
So, anyway I managed both bowling and fielding at my own. And to the another surprise We(though then We had been turned into I) won the match in a breathtaking competition. I performed brilliantly and it was literally one man(cute boy) army. And what do you expect happened next? Not difficult to guess, acknowledgement by audience, praises and appreciation and bystanders telling me how greatly I played. I was getting blushed by each praise. I was happy but badly soon I woke up. I was still happy with memory of dreams but memories don't last much and you have to deal with life.
The match that I played in the dream, alike of those I played in real Life too. Not that exactly as that much great but somewhat similar to it. I got acknowledgement, appreciation, praises and trophies (although we used to buy those from our pocket money to award winner team), but even those trophies used to produce happiness and a sense of achievement. But now all those achievements and happiness is left only in memory. Those awards in almirah are now unable to create that happiness as they used to.
In dreams, your achievements is only with you as long as you're in your dream and once you wake up it fades and obviously no one would acknowledge and appreciate your great performance of dream in real life. So is with this life, no matter whatever you achieve, how rich and famous you become. People will only acknowledge and value you as long you're in this world. No sooner you leave this world than all your achievements will turn zero for you. In the eternal life they won't give you any benefits except those works that you did for that purpose. (If you're trying to judge this post in the middle then you might be wrong, there's much to explore)
Part 3
So far I observed some similarities between dreams and Life.
1 a) Dream lasts only for limited amount of time.
1 b) Life lasts for a relatively more time, nevertheless it's limited too.
2 a) No matter what great things you've done in dreams, no one would appreciate it in real life.
2 b) No matter what great things you've done in life, no one would appreciate it in eternal life.
3 a) The pleasure you experience in your dreams has nothing to do with this life. Means, in your dreams you might be experiencing a roller coaster ride with your friends, then enjoying candle light dinner, rich tasty dishes were on your table and suddenly you wake up and find yourself lying in a room with no electricity, being drenched in sweats so all your pleasure went vanish.
3 b) So is with this life. A person could be a famous, powerful, rich who has minister and police on his payroll. People fears from his name, he does whatever he desires irrespective of moral consequences, oppress others but no one can oppress him. A person with lot of achievements and recognition, people look at him with greedy eyes and wish if they could also be rich and powerful like him. A person whose wealth hides his oppression.
But once he leave this world and enters into a different realm he find himself in a position where all of his achievements and power seems to turn into zero. A position which haunts him, all he could see is just a terribly haunted place filled with horrible looking giant creatures. By this scene he could easily guess about what's going to happen with him.
4 a) The pain you experience in your dreams has nothing to do with this life. Means, you might be experiencing some horrible scenes, getting chased by a sharped toothed witch in your dreams. But suddenly you wake up and find yourself lying on the beach with your loved ones and all your fear went vanish. So in that sense dream has nothing to do with your current real life.
4 b) Similarly in the life, there could be a person who has not achieved much significant in life, who's not known by everyone, whose life is not filled with all good experiences, a person who has bitter experiences, who faced hardships, people's comments and mockery, lived his life in contention and not extravagance.
But once he leaves this world and enters into a different realm, he finds himself in a position where all of his worries gone vanish. A position that fills his heart with joy and pleasure, all he could see is a beautiful place with beautiful attractive creatures who seem to be there to welcome him. By this scene he could easily guess what's going to happen with him.
Part 4
So in the context of above points dream is much similar to life. We do hard work, study all day and night, earn and stock money, to show people that we're worthy. We're worthy of their attention, their praises, their acknowledgement and approval. It's sad many people do also cheat, fraud, usurp rights and oppress others only to get tag of a "powerful man" or for their momentary pleasure. All of life spent in this pursuit and one day we leave this world. So what's the point of all that efforts?
Your achievements of dreams can only be availed in dreams and once your dream is over your achievements get over too. Similarly all of our efforts can only be availed in this life and once we leave this life and enters into another realm, these efforts would hardly be able to give us anything there.
Now you might be wondering, Am I of the opinion that we should not do hard work to make this life better or we shouldn't earn money and live a life a simple life in seclusion?
No no, not at all. What my point is, our efforts and actions should also consist the view of eternal life. Whenever we make a decision about our life we should also consider their consequences on our eternal life. We should invest our efforts in the endeavour of making our this life as well as our eternal life better. We must not forget about our eternal life in making our this life better.
Effort of making this life better as well eternal life should go together. But in case if there seems to be a contradiction in them then eternal life should be given priority. For example, if we are given an opportunity to earn more money or getting better life conditions by forsaking our inner sense such as worshipping money, or any person or anything besides God or by ignoring God's remembrance (namaz). Then we should not try to avail those opportunities.
Similarly, If we are given an opportunity to earn more money or power by means of creating some mischief in land such as doing injustice, consuming usury, oppressing and disrespecting others, or doing business by prohibited means, etc. Then we must not forsake and humiliate our inner self by creating mischief in land in the greed of making this life better.
Part 5
Why eternal life should be prioritzed over this life? Let me explain this by an example. Suppose you're given two choices before seeing a dream.
The first choice is that you will see in dream whatever desires you have, it could be anything, your crush proposing you, you being the richest and most popular man on earth, you riding your favourite car, or anything you could ever possibly imagine.
Another Choice is that you will see in dream, a secret, a treasure, that would change your real life. It will fill your life with happiness, joy, contentment, you'll be famous, rich or whatever you wish in real life.
So what would be your answer? You'll give me a chance to doubt your intelligence if you go for the first choice. Well, If you ask me, then I'd definitely choose second option. Why? Quite obvious. In the first choice, I know whatever I wish to see in dream is going to vanish very soon. While in the second choice, I can make my real life as beautiful I want. So why to chose dream over real life.
Similarly, why to choose life over eternal life. Former is relatively nothing in comparison to latter. However there's hardly anything that we cannot achieve in this life even if we put eternal life ahead of it. The prioritisation is only in the case of contradiction otherwise both can go together. We must do hard work, study day and night, earn money and put other efforts but not only for the sake of this life but for the sake of making our eternal life better. We're given a chance in the form of life so we must make best of it.
So in this post we've learnt about interpretation of dreams in terms of life. Whatever is mentioned in the post is my personal opinion. Tell your views about it. If you find it helpful then do share.
